I started practicing yoga poses on my own while living in the Caribbean. When I moved to Nacogdoches TX. I started practicing seriously at Morning Glory Yoga Studio and have incorporated my Yoga practice into my everyday life. I have now become a student of the yogic lifestyle to include asanas (poses) and the other seven limbs of Yoga. The life experience that I bring with me into my practice include serving as a United States Marine, an educator for CPS (Chicago Public Schools), Legal Aid Para-legal, Entrepreneur, Patient advocate (UTMB) and other miscellaneous service related en devours. I received my certification through the Kingwood Yoga Wellness Center under the B.K.S. Iyengar tradition and am registered with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

It’s an extra special Saturday tomorrow because Sherri is teaching! Although she teaches many amazing classes throughout the week, Sherri rarely has the weekend free to teach at MGYS. You may not know this about her but in addition to being a certified yoga instructor she’s a bad#$! violist in the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra. Her schedule outside of the studio is pretty full BUT this weekend is the one exception in November and luckily she wants to share it with you — so please, do yourself a favor and go.to.class. 🙂
When I think of our team of teachers and their conduct both at MGYS and within our Nacogdoches community I am inspired to be a better person. We truly have an eclectic team of teachers at MGYS! Educated, experienced, caring, charismatic, intuitive, perceptive, receptive, and always willing and ready to teach from a place of compassion. Ready to teach YOU, our dedicated students of yoga – of life.
As Kasey said at the closing of one of the last classes I attended before leaving for India, “We are all in this together.” This has become one of my daily mantras.
Let’s practice, y’all. The lessons observed from the mat are accessible in our day to day lives. These lessons lend to our transformation and betterment as human beings.
Join Sherri and other MGYS Yogis on Saturday, won’t you? It’s THE place to be on Saturday am in Nacogdoches. <3

Hi all!
The sun has once again been unveiled from behind the clouds after a three day abduction which means Erin and I will have a good chance of a hot shower tonight! Ah, what a treat!
I’m going on the second week of practice and everyday still seems like the first, each day presenting new experiences but no sign of continuity. It’s as if I’ve stepped on a mat made of shredded pieces of a complete story, each day fumbling through the various shapes hoping to discover just the right edges and contour. Pulling and pushing, inhaling and exhaling, lengthening and contracting, I rumage through the pieces of this abstract self. The practice is humbling and revealing. (more…)
