Ashtanga Yoga or 8-limbed yoga is an 8-part method as referenced in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Discussion on these eight limbs of ashtanga yoga and how to integrate them into your daily life.

Chanting at the beginning of our practice helps focus our attention and bring ourselves into the present moment preparing the space to practice yoga, reminding us we are practicing something precious and sacred.
This workshop will explore the history and significance of these two chants. Sharing correct pronunciation, its importance as well as a clear translation bringing deeper meanings behind these sacred words.
The ancient practice of chanting works at a subconscious level and can be used to purify mental and physical blockages within the body. Through continual practice of mantra (vibrational sounds) one can become energized and peaceful helping to maintain equilibrium within the self. From a scientific aspect it has been said that chanting holds several calming, therapeutic, psychological, and spiritual benefits.
2-4pm – Fundamentals of Ashtanga
The Fundamental Asanas are the postures that we do after the Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutations) and before whichever series we are working on.
The course will review:
* the six fundamental postures
*tristana; three points of focus
*vinyasa count for each posture
*alignment cues and information to understand and deepen your experience of the postures while helping to uncover the ashtanga method as a moving meditation.

We will explore several ideas from the shastras (sacred texts) to help us understand what influences our actions, ideas, responses, triggers, and our decisions. Helping us to understand how we interact with the world outside through inside. The concepts shared are mainly coming from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. We will end with a meditative Practice.

About Tara Mitra
Tara has been a dedicated practitioner of yoga for over 19 years and is a Certified Yoga Therapist in the T. Krishnamacharya Lineage.
Apprenticing with certified teachers for 1.5 years and R.Saraswathi Jois for 4 years in Mysore, India. Tara has a special bond with Saraswathiji and is one of the first few students authorized by her to teach. She also continues to study Pranayama, Philosophy, Ayurveda and Vedic Chanting in depth for over 8 years and is a long time Vipassana Meditator.
Tara teaches in a playful yet traditional manner.

Spring is a time of birth and rebirth, both in nature and within. After a long winter, you may recognize that there are some things you have outgrown and no longer resonate with. The same way that a garden needs to be cleared out to reveal fresh soil, so do our minds, bodies, and emotions. Once you’ve done the work of clearing space for what is new, you can start planting seeds for how you want your life to feel through the rest of the year. And sometimes, the wind blows in unexpected seeds that volunteer themselves throughout the year. Spring is an ideal time to set your intentions and goals for the year ahead, and this workshop will cover practical and meaningful rituals that will support you during the season of Spring.
Students who register for the workshop will receive a seasonal workbook and can expect to explore the following:
- Name & define the season of Spring from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Ayurveda.
- Learn the seasonal resonances of Spring.
- Learn about rituals and practices that support and balance the energy of Spring.
- Gather together in a Springtime group ceremony.

Foundations of Restorative Yoga Course with Kelsey Carrasquel
This September, Morning Glory Yoga Studio is offering a 4-week Restorative Yoga course taught by Yin & Restorative Yoga teacher, Kelsey Carrasquel. This course will teach students the fundamentals of a Restorative Yoga practice, and also explore the benefits and philosophy of Restorative Yoga.
Class will take place every Tuesday from 7-8:30 PM, beginning on September 6th.
In yoga, resting is not the same as sleeping. Restorative Yoga is the practice of deep relaxation while remaining conscious, awake, and aware. This allows the mind and body to fully process and release stress and trauma, rather than hold onto it or let it build up over time.
Kelsey Carrasquel is trained in trauma-informed teaching methodology, and this course will follow principles which allow students choice, agency, and control in their practice.

The Power of the Breath
Panayama is the yogic practice of breath control. In this workshop, we will first learn and practice a variety of breathing patterns and then explore ways to integrate these breathing patterns into our asana practice. Learn how to use breath to help relax muscles during a stretch, how to improve balance, eliminate frustration with challenging poses, improve stamina, and elevate your physical asana practice to the level of moving meditation.

Opening Hips & Shoulders
Hips and shoulders are notorious for creating problems for yoga students. Learn a variety of stretches to help you liberate your true potential. This class will focus on opening hips and shoulders using stretching strategies including PNF, Active/Isolated and Passive Stretching, while maintaining the integrity of the torso and protecting the knees and other extremities. We will also explore the use of sand bags, rollers, walls, chairs and other props to accelerate success. We will address how to work with injured or traumatized joints and muscles to ensure safe and sustainable progress. Finally, we will address the problem of tight hips and shoulders at its source… the Sensory/Motor cortex of the brain and practice techniques to help re-map range of motion in the brain resulting in immediate and lasting increases in effortless range of motion for both the hips and shoulders.

Yoga Nidra & The Art of Relaxation
Yoga Nidra, sometimes called ‘yogic sleep’, is an ancient practice that was introduced to the West by teachers like Satyananda Saraswati and Swami Rama. One hour of Yoga Nidra practice leads to a state of deep and profound relaxation that many claim can replace 4 hours of regular sleep. But the real benefits to this practice go far beyond simple relaxation. The primary goal of Yoga Nidra is to use deep relaxation along with mental imagery and affirmation to root out negative beliefs that sabotage our practice and life in general, and replace them with positive beliefs that help us to explore and live to our highest potential.

Improving Your Balance
This workshop is appropriate for all levels, from seniors who wish to reduce the likelihood of falling and learn how to age more gracefully, to seasoned athletes wanting to get an edge on performance, or yoga students wishing to improve in asanas that require more balance. Balance improves concentration of the mind, alignment in the body, and efficiency in movement. Above all else, with the right attitude, practicing balance should be fun.
We will start with an overview of balance theory, then explore these ideas in our asana practice, and after a guided relaxation, we will close with a discussion of how lessons learned in physical balance can be applied to find balance in the larger arenas of life, including relationships, business, wellness and others.

Charles MacInerney, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT, has practiced Yoga since 1971, and taught since 1989. He is known for his fun and playful teaching style as he leads students into a deeper understanding and appreciation for yoga. Charles is a gifted generalist and as one studio owner put it, “the most out-of-the-box thinker that I know.”
Charles was recently recognized by the Consul General of India for his work helping yoga to gain acceptance in Texas by introducing yoga to school teachers, administrators, and eventually directly to students. In addition, Charles has introduced yoga to 4 hospitals, and has taught at 5 universities.
At the University of Texas Charles worked with students, faculty, administration, dormitories, Women’s Athletic Program (Track, Golf and Volleyball teams), and Departments of Dance, Music, Art, Architecture, and Kinesiology. In the business world Charles offered workshops and started yoga programs for IBM, Motorola, Apple, 3M, Sematech and dozens of smaller companies.
He teaches ongoing yoga classes in Austin, offers yoga workshops at studios around the country, and leads Yoga & Meditation Retreats as well as Yoga & Writing Retreats throughout the US, Mexico, Costa Rica and Guatemala. He is the founder of Expanding Paradigms through which he regularly presents at National and International Conferences, including the International Association of Yoga Therapy conference. He has written for numerous magazines including the Yoga Journal and is the author of Toxic Goals, Flow, and the Pursuit of Excellence.

September is National Recovery Month
In September, yoga studios worldwide are uniting to increase awareness and understanding surrounding substance abuse and offer hope to individuals who are suffering.
Join us in changing the dialogue surrounding drug and alcohol addiction – from one of isolation to one of community and growth. Every dollar raised goes directly toward teaching Ashtanga yoga classes in treatment centers and providing yoga tuition scholarships for individuals in recovery.
MGY and AYN are hosting two donation classes at the end of September to raise awareness.

NEW CLASS! Therapeutics with Arrie
A Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy class is intended to take participants deeper into their own felt-experience. There is no need for agility, flexibility, or poise.
On the surface a PRYT class may look similar to a “regular” yoga class, but it has a different scope of practice. Individuals are assessed before class and classes are modified based on the needs of the individuals. The Phoenix Rising method of yoga therapy classes progresses students through six phases which facilitates an embodies direct experience.
In a PRYT class you can expect:
1. Moving and breathing to activate muscles and integrate the nervous system
2. Edge exploration to develop concentration and focus
3. Dropping in to practice acceptance and compassion
4. Meditation period to clear the mind of expectations
5. Listening for insight. A open period to allow insight
6. Integration: a time to consider how each practice will inform your life moving forward.
These classes are part of the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy: Teacher Training Practicum that Arrie is studying. This is fulfilling part of the requirements of a yoga therapist as set out by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

Hello All,
We hope you’re doing well and feeling supported. Thank you for being dedicated to your yoga practice, which we hope has been a source of connection and care during this unique time. While the conditions for practicing together continue to challenge all of us, the fruits of the practice itself have been nourishing. Would you agree?
In light of the growing number of COVID-19 cases and Governor Abbott’s recent executive order relating to the use of face coverings during the COVID-19 disaster in public spaces, MGY has made the decision to suspend in-person classes and continue our online offerings at this time. We feel temporarily closing is the most responsible course of action to support the wellbeing of both our yoga community and the greater communities in which we are nestled. We don’t take this decision lightly and will continue to monitor available information about best practices moving forward.
Our well established, quality, online classes have proven to be a supportive and nurturing addition to studio offerings. We are also working on expanding our digital offerings to include on-demand videos for download, as we know internet service can be unreliable for many.
We hope you’ll join us online and are here to answer any questions and troubleshoot for a successful livestream experience. Thanks to all who have already joined and continue to support MGY.
Currently our classes are available free of charge as we know this is financially a tough time for many. We are accepting donations to cover the cost of operations, so please consider making a donation or enrolling in a membership so that we can continue to offer this service and be prepared to return to in-person classes.

Summer Solstice 2020 ONLINE
The Summer Solstice marks the transition from spring to summer, and is a celebration of the longest day (and shortest night) of the year. This online gathering will be a chance to come together to recognize and celebrate this event. It will include a short hatha yoga practice to embody the summer, a brief meditation on the archetypes of summer, and some guidance for setting a personal intention for the upcoming season. Have a pen and paper handy to take notes and wear comfortable clothes.
