MGY1 Facade is Under Construction
Our beloved space, MGY1, is under construction at this time and conditions aren’t quite suitable for holding classes during this process.
All classes, workshops, and events beginning Thursday, 01.16.2020, will be held at MGY2, 409 East Main Street until further notice.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation during renovations.
MGY1 is home and we’ll miss sharing the space but we hope you’ll enjoy the different yet equally inviting feel of MGY2 during our temporary relocation.
A few things to note:
The address is
409 East Main Street
(only a few blocks east of MGY1)
There is plenty of public parking! The lot to the east of the building and street parking are conveniently located. Our entrance is in the back of the building (north side). Main Street entrance is NOT used.
- If you store your mat at MGY1, it has been relocated to MGY2. Mats without names labeled on them have been pulled and placed to the side for identification. Please put your full name on your mat if you plan to leave it at MGY2. Space is very limited and complimentary as first come, first serve.
- All props have been moved as well and available for you to use at MGY2.
This should be a fun – temporary – move! We look forward to practicing with you at MGY2 while the original location gets the care and repair it needs to be restored to it’s best condition!
Again, thank you for your patience and understanding. As we learn of more details so shall you.
With love,
Amy, Arrie, Lou, & Glenda

It’s a tall order to describe Arrie. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call him knowledgeable about contemplative practices.
Arrie is a kind and knowledgeable teacher who is quick to offer his perspective without denying anyone else’s. He is fascinated by the human body and how it functions, injuries and aliments are a favorite topic of conversation. His training in transpersonal ecopsychology from Naropa University has taught him how to place individual experiences in larger contexts, thus allowing for deep compassionate engagement.
He teaches yoga at at Morning Glory Yoga Studio in Nacogdoches and has for nearly a decade. Arrie is a certified yoga teacher through The Living Yoga Program in Austin, Texas and is currently furthering his studies in yoga therapy.
Yoga Mala 2020
Join Amy on New Years Day at MGY1
at 10:00 AM for the 7th Annual Yoga Mala, 108 Sun Salutations
a ceremony to mark a community wide transition
that has become tradition here at MGYS.
The new calendar year is a great reason to investigate one’s life (thoughts, habit patterns, behaviors, and relationships). The purpose of this ceremony is to create a space for this exploration, as well as to offer a structural model for productive investigation.
The Salutations will be broken down into 4 sets of 27 with a meditative pause between each. Amy will lead each section guiding the first few salutations to set the rhythm. Listen and try to stay together. This is intended to be a group project. 🙂
Students may practice all 108 Sun Salutations or a portion, choosing to rest while remaining focused.
We will have an area to place flowers, candles, and special objects. If you have something you’d like to contribute, a meaningful artifact, please bring it for the ceremony and retrieve after.
Let’s begin 2019 together! Following the Mala we’ll have light refreshments, traditional dishes, and a toast to the New Year. Please join in on the celebration. <3
Please expect to be at the studio from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction 8 Week Intensive
Morning Glory Yoga Studios has partnered with Dr. Sydney Kroll of Pineywoods Psychological Services and will host an 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Intensive.
Back by popular demand, this evidence-based program will teach participants to be more responsible in the management of their own health, vitality, and healing, and to find greater balance, ease, and peace of mind.
MBSR combines mindfulness meditation and yoga in an 8-week intensive training. This practice is ideal for cultivating greater awareness of the unity of mind and body, as well as of the ways the unconscious thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can undermine emotional, physical, and spiritual health. Mindfulness has been shown to positively affect a range of autonomic physiological processes, such as lowering blood pressure and reducing overall arousal and emotional reactivity. It’s been estimated that stress contributes to 80% of medical office visits. Stress exacerbates physical pain, hypertension, and various medical conditions, and can lead to declines in immune functioning and overall physical well-being. In addition, stress causes irritability, relationship problems, and declines in performance and reliability, which can in turn lead to more significant anxiety and depression. But unlike many other physical concerns, we have the ability to manage stress and its effects.
This class will teach a variety of mindfulness-based stress reduction and self-care skills that can be integrated into participants’ lives on a regular basis. The foundation of the class is mindfulness, which means paying attention to our experience without judgment. This class is modeled on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn at University of Massachusetts Medical School. By bringing more awareness to their lives, participants can learn to respond with choice rather than reacting automatically. Participants will learn to access powerful inner resources to enhance coping and to live their lives with more balance and clarity. Mindfulness will be cultivated through both informal and formal practice. In addition, participants will be taught a variety of ways to counter stress physiology, cognitive behavioral strategies to increase self-awareness regarding distorted thinking patterns, and nutrition management. Research supports the following benefits of MBSR:
- Reductions in pain levels and ability to cope with chronic pain
- Decreases in anxiety, depression, hostility
- More effective stress management
- Increased ability to relax
- Greater energy and enthusiasm for life
- Improved self-esteem
- Improved ability to deal with short and long-term stressful situations
Who can benefit? Anyone who would benefit from learning stress management skills, individuals with anxiety, panic, or mild to moderate depression, and individuals with health conditions, such as pain and chronic medical conditions, that are exacerbated by stress.
- Anxiety
- Work, Family, Financial Stress
- Asthma
- Heart Disease
- Headaches
- High Blood Pressure
- Sleep Problems
- Fatigue
- Fibromyalgia
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Eating Disturbances
- Panic Attacks
- Anxiety and Depression
- Chronic Illness and Pain
- Grief
- Gastrointestinal (GI) Distress
