Ashtanga Weekend with Jade Skinner
Saturday, October 10, 2015
9:00am -10:30am
Led 1/2 Primary – $25.00
While Half Primary classes move more slowly than Primary Series classes, you’ll build up heat in your body, sweat and detoxify. This class moves at a slower pace, which allows for more instruction, introducing some of the more advanced poses in an approachable way. The class is appropriate for anyone who is working toward the Primary Series, as well as experienced Hatha yogis who want a taste of Ashtanga. The Half Primary is truly a mixed level class that attracts new students and experienced Primary Series students who value slowing things down a bit from time to time. Modifications are encouraged.
1:00pm -3:00pm
Grounded in Asana – $35.00
The standing poses of Ashtanga are the basic grounding and centering asanas, therefore, making them an ideal starting point for your practice. All the postures integrate the body, balancing flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination. In this workshop we’ll bring our attention to the connection that we have with the earth through our feet. Learning to be relaxed and balanced as we realign our foundation from the feet, to the ankles, through the knees, to the pelvis and base of the spine. Because standing poses require us to actively engage our awareness of how we use our muscles, joints, and breath, they build both mental and physical stamina as well as discipline. No matter what else you might want to explore in the vast world of yoga, this workshop will give you a solid foundation, good alignment, an understanding of body mechanics, and tangible training in mindfulness.

Transitions in Vinyasa (jump through to the jump back) – $35.00
To transition means to move or connect one idea to the next. Let’s be honest with ourselves, we all want that sensation of ‘lightness” when we’re doing yoga. In this case, we will be looking at the movements in a vinyasa practice that weave postures together.
Transitions show us the relationship between the foundation of an asana and all the ideas that support it. They help us to gauge progression of our practice when we are flowing in a vinyasa class, from basic to challenging, by the fluidity and grace of our actions. We’ll break down the jump back to chaturanga in the 3rd and 4th vinyasa of Sun Salutations as well as the jump forward from downdog back to standing. This will help you to understand the underlying components of the jump back, jump through transitions of seated postures and how the backbone is based on a series of 3 main postures from Sun Salutation A. Learn some basic anatomy and strength exercises as well as correct breathing techniques to assist you in developing healthy movement patterns. Let’s get lifted!
About Jade
I started to study yoga when I moved to Saint Petersburg, Florida in 2002. Back then I didn’t know yoga would become my way of life. One day, my teacher told me, “Yoga will change your life forever!” and she was absolutely right. Yoga not only changed my life, it soon became so much more…To me, Yoga now is my lifestyle. I can’t image my being without it. It helped me not only trade my bad habits for good but to look out from under the veil to see all that the world has to offer. Through personal change, I became extremely passionate to share this knowledge with others. That’s when I decided to become a yoga teacher.
I later discovered Ashtanga Yoga while learning and teaching Vinyasa. It immediately captivated me. Through my years of practicing and teaching different methods of yoga, Ashtanga is where my heart remains. Ashtanga is intriguing in so many ways. It brings clarity to every state of your being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. My own personal experiences on the mat have deeply humbling to the core of my being. A reminder that change is impermanence and adaptation is acceptance. And now my purpose is to share, teach and help my students grow on their journey with Ashtanga Yoga.

Rebecca Butler Workshops Canceled
Regrettably, Choose Joy Workshops with Rebecca Butler that were scheduled for this weekend, September 11-13, have been CANCELED. We hope to reschedule for future dates.
Please see the following note from Rebecca Butler to you, students of MGYS and others registered for this weekend and/or considering.
“I’m deeply sorry & regret not being able to come this weekend, especially as I so enjoyed getting to know you last year & have been looking forward to this for some time. However, as you may or may not be aware, I’ve opened my own studio in the last year (yay!). The life of a small business owner has taken me by storm this summer as one of my teachers left to have a sweet baby. In 6 weeks, I’ve not had 1 single day off, on occasion teaching 15-17 sessions/week. As such my health & my daughters health are slightly suffering & my marriage needs some mindful tending to. I find myself in the unfortunate position of choosing – work & connection & travel & adventure vs family & health & self love. In an attempt to embody what I teach, choosing joy in the face of challenge, I must choose to stay home and rest and heal. I will miss you dearly, pray for graceful forgiveness and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reschedule/convene again.” ~Rebecca
On behalf of MGYS, I apologize for the late cancelation notice (it’s certainly not common practice) and although beyond my control I regret the inability to inform you sooner. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Be assured that payments for workshops will be refunded IN FULL.

With you, our studio continues to grow! Please join us on Labor Day and meet others within our thriving community who are practicing at MGYS. Hope to see you on the mats!

Choose Joy — A fearless exploration of your central truth
{A well rounded, basic to intermediate level flow class including arm balances and inversions}
In this provocative yoga workshop, you will connect deeply to your true nature. It is Rebecca Butler’s belief and central teaching principle that joy is the quintessential foundation of our essence. Through carefully constructed sequencing, she will guide you along her spiritual trail that has led her to wholeheartedly invest in this truth. The asana (physical yoga poses) will be challenging, nourishing, sweat inducing and righteous. You will be confronted with glimmers of your edge while soothed with the certainty of grounding. You can expect standing poses, arm balances, inversions, floor work and core work, complimented by laughter, perhaps tears and definitely smiles. Indeed, exploring Avenues of Joy is truly a glorious undertaking.
Saturday (10am-12n)
Choose Magic — This is how we walk on the moon
{A clinic about arm balances and inversions}
There is no limitation. The only limitations are those that we place on ourselves. We subscribe to this prison of our awareness, recreating the same reality day after day, to prove to ourselves that we are not crazy (one of the greatest fears of our day and age — being crazy). In this workshop, we will trot carefully and mindfully to your edge — spiritually and physically. And then, we will take a deep breath and enjoy the view. For it is at this place, where with compassion, breath and kindness, we can create meaningful and lasting change. Yes, it is magic. Seamless press-ups from crow to handstand require nothing short of believing in magic. My more pragmatic students roll their eyes at this. And it’s at precisely this moment when I offer, The trees breathe what we exhale and we breathe what they exhale… You don’t believe in magic?! Come Choose Magic and see what’s really possible when we drop resistance and lean in to infinite possibility.
Sunday (10am-12n)
Choose Miracles — Shift from Fear to Love
{A playshop of softening into the moment through partner style restorative work and deep hip opening}
A miracle is defined as a shift in perspective from fear to love. In this session, we will work with great tenderness into softening and caring for the major joints via partner-style restorative yoga, long holds in deep hip openers and a sound healing session to culminate this cleanse. You will be stripped of fear, which resides in the root chakra. You will be cleared of any lingering resistance to your worthiness and awareness of the ability to Choose Joy, Choose Magic and Choose Miracles in everyday moments, no matter what the circumstances.
Please join us for this sure to be sensational weekend with Rebecca.
Bio:
Rebecca Butler is a humble and happy yoga teacher (at the RYT 500 hour level), published author, inspirational speaker, retreat leader and entrepreneur, as well as a mom. In addition to owning and operating her own yoga studio, The Sanctuary Yoga Room in Fort Worth, TX, she travels teaching her empowering weekend of Choose Joy yoga workshops in varying cities all over the country, including the Telluride Yoga Festival.
It is her intention for her classes to render her students physically satiated and spiritually uplifted, her writing to spark your soul and her inspirational speaking to awaken you to your purpose within. It is her own purpose to help others recognize the ability to Choose Joy no matter what life offers.
In 2012, her mother passed from ALS or Lou Gehrigʼs disease. In that heart-wrenching journey, Rebecca learned that life is meant to be cherished, never squandered; movement, health and breath are righteous gifts to be celebrated, never neglected; and kindness, love and grace are the only admirable ways of being. She integrates this wisdom into her teaching, writing, speaking and daily approach to life.
In addition to being a wellness expert for MindBodyGreen, Rebecca has been featured in Origin Magazine. Her writing has also been published on on multiple other sites including Elephant Journal and in a book titled The Yoga Diaries: Stories of Transformation through Yoga by Jeannie Page.
